about us

What is Shalom?

Shalom is a rich Hebrew word that means more than just “peace.” It speaks to a deep sense of wholeness, harmony, and well-being in every area of life—mind, body, and spirit. Rooted in ancient Jewish tradition, shalom describes a state where all things are in right relationship—within ourselves, with others, and with all living beings. At Shalom Wellness Services, this vision guides our work as we support individuals, families, and communities in healing, reconnecting, and thriving together.

Our core values—authenticity, wholeness, resilience, connection, and harmony—reflect the heart of shalom and guide our trauma-informed approach to care and change. These values are intentionally ordered to reflect a natural and healing progression for individuals and communities. Authenticity is the foundation—when people feel safe to be real, they can begin the journey toward wholeness. From that sense of integration, resilience can grow, allowing individuals and teams to face challenges with strength. This opens the door for deeper connection with others, which creates the conditions for true harmony—within the organization and the broader community. This sequence mirrors the pathway of trauma-informed transformation: starting with safety and trust, moving toward healing, and ultimately creating a culture where everyone can belong and thrive.

Our Values

Authenticity

Being true to who we are, without hiding or pretending.

Shalom invites us to show up fully and be seen. Authenticity creates space for honesty, transparency, and trust. In a trauma-informed organization, authenticity is cultivated when leaders and team members feel safe enough to bring their whole selves to their work. It supports voice, choice, and empowerment—key TIC principles, per the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Wholeness

The integration of all parts of ourselves—mind, body, spirit, and story.

Shalom is about restoration and embracing every part of our journey, even the broken or hidden pieces. Trauma-informed care recognizes that healing involves the whole person. Organizations that promote wholeness create environments that honor diversity, value lived experiences, and support holistic wellness.

Resilience

The ability to bend, not break—growing through adversity.

Shalom doesn’t ignore pain—it makes space for healing and renewal. Resilience is the courage to keep going and the capacity and skills to recover and thrive. Trauma-informed systems foster resilience by creating predictable, safe, and supportive environments that help individuals and teams adapt and grow in the face of stress or change.

Connection

A sense of belonging, mutual care, and shared humanity.

Shalom happens in relationship—when we are seen, heard, and held with compassion. In trauma-informed care, relationships are central. Organizations that value connection promote collaboration, community, and co-regulation, helping people feel safe and supported.

Harmony

Living in balance—with ourselves, others, and all living things.

Shalom calls us into right relationship—with the earth, our bodies, and one another. Harmony invites gentleness, justice, and peace. Trauma-informed implementation honors the need for balance—between structure and flexibility, accountability and grace. Harmony helps organizations align their values, practices, and culture with well-being for all.
